Your Customers Are Your New Ad Agency

This is an excellent video from author and media critic Jeff Jarvis on the future of advertising and the advertising agency…or not. In fact, his point is that the role the agency plays needs to dramatically change. Brands need to turn off their advertising and instead focus on listening to customers and engineering a better customer experience so customers will do your marketing for you. “Hi, I’m your customer, I’m here to help”.

In this new world of open, collaborative conversations with customers, brands have to stop acting like everything’s perfect and harness the collective wisdom of their audiences to make what they do better. If you are a brand steward and you want to avoid the bitch meme, it’s time to stop advertising and time to start listening and conversing.
