Will There Be More Than Two Mobile Platforms?

An analyst with Rodman & Renshaw predicted Monday the mobile platform wars would come down to Google and Apple. I think there’s a lot of truth to this. As the technology becomes more personal, we have less tolerance for learning curves. Every new platform offers a new set of user experiences. This has been the long-term problem for Windows on the desktop, in my opinion. Every piece of software has stuff in different places. As the number of titles available increases, it becomes impossible to keep up with what is where. It mobile, which is always on the go, there’s even less tolerance for a users manual. Developers had better nail the user experience or they’re toast. Platform builders, the same. No longer will the public subsidize your R&D efforts. You better get it right from the start.
